Seventh Weekend Media Festival ends: Bigger and better attended than ever

The seventh Weekend Media Festival closed last night in Rovinj with a concert by the popular Croatian band Psihomodo Pop. Over the past three days, Weekend’s various lectures, panel discussions, presentations, workshops and parties have attracted around 4,000 visitors from 12 different countries across the region, Europe and the world. The participants discussed many different business- and media-related issues. Moreover, a number of new projects were discussed, while international speakers presented the latest trends in communications.

Once again Weekend managed to gather the region’s entire communications industry in one place, at the same time expanding its reach to other business sectors and significantly prolonging Rovinj’s tourist season.

“By all criteria, this was the biggest, most attended and most exciting Weekend ever. I want to thank all of those who came to Rovinj and once again made Weekend the biggest gathering of the region’s communications industry. We are duty-bound to be even better next year and we will start working on it as early as tomorrow. See you back in Rovinj in 2015,”festival director Tomo Ricov stated.

Introducing another workshop hall this year proved to be a complete success. “The workshops were extremely well attended and I believe many have left Rovinj with concrete skills and insights that they can apply straight away in their own businesses. We intend to take all the great experiences from this year and use them next year. You can even expect some new experiences as Weekend is a festival of continuous innovations,”program director Nikola Vrdoljak said.

This year the BalCannes advertising agencies’ review and the SoMo Borac award ceremony broke all the records. For instance, as many as 147 projects were submitted to BalCannes, the region’s marketing event of the year, and only the top 25 were showcased in Rovinj. Moreover, SoMo Borac attracted 135 applications, and then the jury picked award winners in eight different categories.

Of the 4,000 visitors to the seventh Weekend Media Festival, there were over 300 students from across the region. Furthermore, there were more than 500 journalists from the region as well as other European countries. Finally, the program featured over 130 communications experts in nearly fifty lectures, panel discussions, presentations and workshops.
