Seventh Weekend Media Festival ends: Bigger and better attended than ever

The seventh Weekend Media Festival closed last night in Rovinj with a concert by the popular Croatian band Psihomodo Pop. Over the past three days, Weekend’s various lectures, panel discussions, presentations, workshops and parties have attracted around 4,000 visitors from 12 different countries across the region, Europe and the world. The participants discussed many different business- and media-related issues. Moreover, a number of new projects were discussed, while international speakers presented the latest trends in communications.

  • I am glad that I was part of the Weekend Media Festival this year. In professional terms, it was an interesting and enjoyable experience for me, with very interesting panel discussions concerning my interests and the work that I do. I would like to point out the panel discussions (Don't) go to Europe and The Return of the Printed-Out! Of course, the organization, socializing and music were all great. Thank you again for the invitation. I hope to see you next year.

  • Weekend Media Festival proved to be a pleasant blend of work and fun. The event where you can exchange information, knowledge and experience with people from work, within a framework, but also outside it, in a number of meetings and gatherings that give a special charm to this Festival of communications.

  • Weekend Media Festival is a great event that brings together local experts and experts from the region, other parts of Europe and beyond. It's a great way to promote both Croatia and Rovinj and it contributes to destination development in the tourist post-season. The panel about tourism on an event of this kind is evidence of a large public interest in this sector, and I will gladly continue to respond to every constructive discussion about its development.

  • Weekend Media Festival is and remains "the" regional festival of communications industry! It’s stylish, cool, with plenty of opportunity for socializing and networking. Congratulations to the organization!

  • Weekend Media Festival 2011 was my first visit to both Rovinj and Croatia and I can safely say, based upon the wealth of talent, drive and creative hunger I witnessed, I will definitely be returning. Hopefully with other colleagues in town. What the WMF has achieved with this event is astounding and never have I felt more welcomed at an overseas event than I have this at Weekend in Rovinj. Good job!

  • My wife and I hugely enjoyed the Weekend Media Festival – a great event, brilliantly organized, with lots of interesting sessions. The session in which I participated gave me interesting insights into the problems faced by business journalists in Croatia (the simultaneous translation was excellent) and I learn a lot about the country. I was also glad to have the opportunity of explaining what the Wincott Foundation has been doing to strengthen economic journalism in East and Central Europe – we look forward to receiving applications for our Wincott fellowships from Croatia and neighboring countries. (Details of the fellowship programme can be found on link).

  • I have been working here from the very first Weekend Media Festival. Over the years I experienced all sorts of scenes on Weekends: thunderous ovations, demonstrative leaving of the hall, crazy parties, the beginning of historic cooperation, hangovers, new loves... This is a Festival of great energy and the perfect finale of every summer. Can't wait for the next one!

  • I have been fortunate enough to travel around the world and attend some of biggest, most spectacular events around the globe; I can honestly say that Weekend Media Festival is the most fun and refreshing event I have ever attended.

  • I thought the event was excellent. Rovinj is a beautiful setting for the festival and there was a massive attendance with the lectures full to overflowing. For me the best part is the sharing of ideas and latest learning, such open sharing of best practice can only help us as all as industry and put those that attend and learn at an advantage.

  • My First Weekend, the first panel, the first presentation of Croatian corporations that went digital. Thank you, Nikola, for the initiative. I hope we'll continue next year!

  • As Presscut recognized the value and quality of this Festival a long time ago, it is not surprising that we have been successfully cooperating for years. This year we decided to give a short presentation and we were really delighted with excellent organization and warm hospitality. The overall impression is outstanding. I would hereby like to give a big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the organization of the Festival. And yes, I'll see you next year.

  • A huge thank you to all of you who have invited us (especially me this first time) and hosted in Rovinj! I had a blast hanging out with everyone and regret the fact it lasted so short. From my heart I thank you again for the weekend that exceeded all expectations.

  • This year's Festival has once again proved its uniqueness. In a fun and unique way it continues to contribute to the development of the media industry. Over the years, the Festival matured through lectures and exchange of experiences, set standards and enriched visitors and lecturers.

  • Weekend Media Festival is a truly special event that brings together creative minds and communication professionals from all industries, and I am pleased that one of the topics was our tourism. Additionally, Weekend Media Festival is one of the special events that have a positive impact on the development of tourist destinations in which they are held, and every year they surpass results of the previous year. A very intense period is coming in which we will redefine the promotion of Croatian tourism and I hope that next year we will be able to present the excellent results of this project.

  • This year’s Weekend Media Festival was beyond all expectations. It moved the boundaries between different sectors, people and occupations, highlighting the role of media as an integrating factor. My stay in Rovinj was interesting and fun.

  • Every year I discover a new aspect of the Weekend Media Festival: apart from several constructive encounters and meetings, and hearing something new and something smart, I found out that I cannot party like I could before. It is, of course, because of the age of the Weekend Media Festival, not mine. So from now on I will emphasize only the smart and social aspect of the Festival, I promise. Almost certainly! See you next year.

  • I am thrilled with the Festival in Rovinj. I am thrilled with the participants of panel discussions, guests and Rovinj itself. It was an honour to speak on such a wonderful and relaxed gathering. I think that we have all contributed to the affirmation of friendship and the fact that in this region, whether we like it or not, we have to be close. A Look Over the Fence is, in a way, a look in one’s own yard - the comparison is necessary so one can evaluate where one is!

  • This year's Weekend has once again fulfilled all of my expectations - lots of opportunities for socializing and interesting guests on panel discussions in one place, with great food at every step and weather that we could only wish for. As far as I'm concerned, the highlight of Weekend Media Festival was Boris Trupčević, who at the end of the panel discussion I moderated, announced a 20 per cent sales growth of the newspaper 24 sata and he was willing to bet his hair that the sales would actually go up by that amount. Next year we will be waiting for the Director of Styria Croatia with a hair trimmer. Just in case.
